Week 2 - Day 2 - Activity 2

Today I did the second activity of the second day of the second week, for it I had to rate a picture out of five with an explanation as to why I chose to rate it that way.

I'd rate it 3/5 stars because it doesn't look that interesting but it still might have a backstory because it's supposed to be a self portrait.

Week 2 - Day 2 - Activity 1

Today I did the first activity for the second day of the second week, for it I had to watch a movie trailer for a film called Gold Rush which was a silent film that had absolutely no talking and also say whether or not I would enjoy watching the whole movie.

I would watch the movie because it looks like it'd be funny even though it won't have any sound, I'd also watch it because I do not know what the movies were like back then.

Week 2 - Day 1 - Bonus Activity

In this activity I had to read a poem about Flanders field then say if you liked it or not.

I really liked this poem because it had a lot of rhyming words and the poem. When I read I was pleased because it said how the brave and disciplined people were fighting for our country and gave their lives for our country.

Week 2 - Day 1 - Activity 2

In this activity I had to voice my opinion on whether or not I thought that it was fair that women weren't allowed to vote in Saudi Arabia until 2015.

Personally I thought this was an unfair decision because I think women should've been able to vote in Saudi Arabia. They should have the vote because they are human beings like us and the only difference between them is that they are boys and they are girls. The ruler probably only changed it because of all the women protesting around the world or other countries are allowing them to vote.

Week 2 - Day 1 - Activity 1

The Saint Mary Cathedral Church is located at the peak of a hill in East Perth, at the center of Victoria Square in Western Australia. The Saint Mary Cathedral Church took 70 years to make and was opened in the early 2000's.

2. How does it feel to be a gold medalist?
3. When did you start training?
4. Who coached you?

Week 1 - Day 5 - Activity 2

For this activity I had to read about a village and then say three things that are interesting about it.

1: You can go sailing
2: You can bungy jump
3: You can see the beautiful views
Link to village site.

Week 1 - Day 4 - Bonus Activity

Today I did the bonus activity for day 4 of the summer learning journey, for it I had to rate three videos of kapa haka from 1 to 3.

1. Number one because they were all singing and had good costumes. Video Link
2. Number two because they used musical instruments. Video Link
3. Number three because the men didn't do much aside from singing. Video Link

Week 1 - Day 4 - Activity 2

Today I did the second activity for day four of the summer learning journey, for it I had to read about some Maori games and then choose one of them. After that I had to say what the name of it was, the goal of the game and then two of its rules.

I chose Ki O Rahi because I have played this game at school.
Goal: Score points by getting the ball or whatever object is used for the game, team with the most points in the end is the winner.
Rules:
1: If you're in the inside circle you have to use the bridge to get out.
2: You have to hit the barrel in the middle of the circles to get points after you go around tapping the sticks sticking out of the ground.

Week 1 - Day 4 - Activity 1

In this activity we had to listen to Waiatas. A waiata is the name given to a traditional Māori song. After we have listen to a whole bunch of waiatas you have to pick your favourite one then say what you like about it.

My favourite waiata is called Rona. I liked this waiata because during Maori at school, we sing it and our school Kapa Haka sang during our school production and at other outside events. I also like this waiata because it is about a book named Rona And The Moon I also liked this song because it was very catchy and there is a dance to it that many schools learn.

Week 1 - Day 3 - Bonus Activity

n this activity I had choose three people from my family. I asked them their two favorite things to do in the summer. I choose to ask my mother, older sister and my dad.

Mother
Works
Exercise

Ko Poneke Maunga te maunga - The mountain that I affiliate to is Mount Wellington
Ko Tamaki River te awa - The river that I affiliate to is Tamaki River
Ko ahau mai i samoa - I am from Samoa
Ko oku mātua he haurangi me te mata - My parents are Janice and Sio

In this activity I talk about having nine siblings. I explain how I would feel and if I would want to be in such be family. In my opinion I would love to be in such a big family because of the love and the support I would get. Always having someone by your side between the happy and rough times would be great. Although there would be a lot of fighting and arguing but we would always find our ways around those problems and become sisters and brothers again. I also think it would be a struggle because a car cannot fit that much people in it.

Week 1 - Day 2 - Bonus Activity

In this activity I have provided a photo of my favourite food to eat which is nachos.

My favourite food is nachos because of all the ingredients used, the color and especially how it tastes. I love tacos because you can make them in so many different styles like when my mum makes tacos she buy chili beans. I also love nachos because of the salsa and the guacamole to me it adds a lot more flavour and it goes really well with nachos.

Week 1 - Day 2 - Activity 2

In this activity I used google draw to create a picture of my dream job. My dream job is to become a pilot. An pilots job is to fly people from one destination to another destination. I want to do this job because I like being in the air and traveling.

Week 1 - Day 2 - Activity 1

In this activity I compared wharepuni to my home. A wharepuni is a house that people lived in the 1800's. I have provided an image to show you what a wharepuni looked like. I found two similarities and two differences between the wharepuni and my home.

Differences
The wharepuni has traditional designs and carvings
The wharepuni has traditional statues as support pillars
Similarities
They both have doors and windows
They both have one story

Week 1 - Day 1 - Bonus Activity

n this activity I watched a video of Waka Ama race, The Waka Ama race is a sporting competition that both boys and girls can compete in. You have to use your paddle to get your waka past the finish line first. One day I would like to participate in this race because I am very competitive and my sister, mum and dad used to do this sport.

Week 1 - Day 1 - Activity 2

In this activity I am traveling to New Zealand by waka. I wrote a short letter to my friend telling them about my voyage to New Zealand and how I feel about moving countries. In my short letter I tried to describe everything I would see.

Hi, my voyage to New Zealand is amazing. The water sparkles under the dazzling bright light of the sun. The mountains are breathtaking. I was very nervous before I left. We just arrived on land the sand is so soft but it is burning my feet. I see all the native trees. I wish you could be here.
Sincerely, Mataio

Week 1 - Day 1 - Activity 1

In this activity I read a story called Maui and The Giant Fish. I have read many different stories about Maui: how Maui slowed the sun and how Maui brought fire to the world but I have not read this one. The story was about Maui wanting to prove to his brothers that he was a great fisherman. He weaved together his own fishing line and caught a huge fish. From this story I picked three interesting that I didn't already know.

  1. The huge fish Maui had caught became known as the North Island of Aotearoa and his canoe became the South Island of Aotearoa
  2. Maui used the blood from his nose as bait to catch the gigantic fish
  3. The gullies and mountains the brothers had made became landscapes of Aotearoa

Leadership Speech - 2017

Sports Leader

Hi my name is Mataio and I am the best candidate for sports leader 2018.

Firstly I am a very active person and have joined every interschool this year. I would be a great sports leader because I know how to be part of a team and know how to represent our school at inter schools with respect, self confidence, teamwork and a lot of sportsmanship.

Secondly I will strive and represent Panmure Bridge School in the best way possible and become a role model to all younger students. I’ve gained confidence through participating in all activities and having a positive attitude towards trying new things.

I can motivate others and encourage them to try their best and never give up. I can inspire others when they feel discouraged, not able to do something, not wanting to participate or being mocked.

My speech is now coming to an end. To call myself sports leader for 2018 will be a honor and a privilege. This position is made for me and I will be able to prove that if you vote me for your sports leader for 2018.

Today we had our leadership speeches to find out who is going to be the leader's for 2018. I went for sports leader to me I was very nervous at first but then I gained confidence during my speech. Good luck to everyone who said a speech.

Google Logo Coding Game

Today I played a game on the google logo. Using my scratch skills from Digital Tech I was able to solve this really easily. By playing this game I was able to get better at it. This really helped me out to not forget how to use scratch. Thanks to the help of buddy Fraidoon, I was able to get it done faster.

Tech Reflection

This year was the year 7's first time going to tech at Tamaki College. This year I did digital tech with Ms Anderson, food tech with Mrs Heka, and graphics with Miss Ferguson. They were all great but my favourite is food tech. In food tech we made some nice food and did some boring paper work. The first thing we made with Mrs Heka was an Oreo milkshake and the last thing we made was a moist chocolate log. They were both my favourite thing to make besides the pizza we made. With Ms Anderson we made a short animation of a problem that effects New Zealand, littering. This is a major problem in a lot of countries. With Ms Ferguson we learnt how the laser cutter and the 3d printer works. I have learnt many skills from these activities like how to use scratch, how to make chicken goujons and how to use a 3d printer. These were some of the many skills I learnt this year thanks to tech.

Hazel's Visit

On behalf of Rachel, Hazel came to our last weeks assembly to talk to us about the Summer Learning Journey 2017 - 2018. The Summer Learning Journey is a free blogging challenge for children year 1 - 8. The theme for this year is going back in time. This year we will be looking at the past of New Zealand and the early settling here.

Social Science

As usual last week we went to tech. We decorated our delicious chocolate logs with sprinkles, cherries and white chocolate. After tech we were invited to stay a bit longer to do a different activity. I was put in social science with Ms Apelu. My favourite part of social science was the second activity. The activity was to plan Mrs Anderson's next holiday. Because we used google earth we had to roll the dice and see where we landed. I landed in Lyon, France. So I had to find facts that would persuade Mrs Anderson to go to Lyon. Here is what I wrote so far

Dear Mrs Anderson we have been researching different locations for your next holiday. We think you should go to Lyon in France. The first reason why we think you should go to Lyon is because they are the home of 14 Michelin star restaurants and is allegedly known for having 22 of the best places to eat in FRANCE!!
