LS2 Lung Capacity

To compare the ling capacity of students in LS2, we used one breath to blow up a balloon. Then we measured the circumference if the balloon in cm. After we could graph the results to compare them. Did you know that four people had the lung capacity of 50 cm? You can also see that Julian has the biggest and Avalon and the smallest lung capacity.

Homonyms

Today LS2 was learning about Homonyms. Homonyms are 2 words that are spelt the same and be pronounced the same, but they have totally different meanings. I finished this dlo with the help of Fraidoon. I think Fraidoon and I came up with interesting homonym examples. I enjoyed doing this task because I learnt what a homonym is.

The Unfinished Drink

Today we got to learn about a man named La Tour Mollet d'Auvergne (Ted). He served as a machine gun battalion in 1941. Unfortunately he was killed by the German elite. Ted was only 35 years of age. There was a poem written about Ted. It was about him leaving a beer at a bar called Waihao Forks and saying he will come back for it when he gets home from the war. Sadly he never did.

Skating

As part of Kiwi sports this term Mr Ogilvie has kindly offered skating lessons in the hall for students year 4-8. Today was the year 7&8 and everyone was estatic. First Puna (our skating coach) taught us how to get up on the roller skates which was pretty easy for some people. We then had a warm up game by practicing how to skate. I found it easy but I think I need to work on my momentum. Soon we had a race and it was a bit hard because people were screaming all over the place. Luckily I came first for my group. At the end of the lesson we were lucky to get VIP Skate Pass which meant we could go to one free skating class. Thank you to Mr Ogilvie and Mrs Anderson for supervising us and Puna for teaching us how to skate. 

Sailing Have Go!

This Wednesday 23 people were given a special opportunity to learn how to sail, I was lucky enough to be a part of the that. We packed our bags and took a bus all the way to Okahu bay. We got to met our instructor Maria who was from Argentina. First we were taught how to set up the boat we would be sailing on. Then we put on our sailing gear and started to put our boats into the water. We learned how to control the boat and after we started to playing games like netball and follow the leader. Although I returned to school with a few cuts I really enjoyed the special experience. A big thank you to Mr Ogilvie for organizing the trip and Mr Johnston. Ms Kirkpatrick and Mrs Colenbrander for supervising us.

Memorial

Yesterday we started reading a sophisticated picture book called memorials. It was written by Gary Crew and Illustrated by Shaun Tan. As we read through the book we created a presentation to record information and take apart the story to get a better understanding about it. Once we finished we chose one of the slides from the presentation to blog about. I chose the memorials in New Zealand. We defined what memorial means and located some examples.

TinkerCad - Design Process

Today at tech we created a google slide on how to use TinkerCad. I took screenshots of what I was talking about to give people a better understanding. The first time I used TinkerCad I found it easy because my graphics teacher Mrs Ferguson helped me a lot.
